All Things

Along with self, authority and consequences of sin, God ultimately brings all other things into our lives. For Christians, God causes all circumstances (people, things and events) to work together for good (Rom 8:28) which encompasses both blessing and adversity (Job 2:10).

Adversity includes irritation, conflict, suffering and anxiety which may result in blame, anger, revenge or suicide. Again, these point to the possibility of unresolved personal guilt.

There are two proper responses to adversity: forgiving others and surrendering rights to God. As God has forgiven us, we are to forgive others who wrong us (Mt 18: 21-35). As Jesus abandoned His infinite attributes, we are to surrender that which we claim as our rights - health, activities, possessions, relationships, etc. (Phil 2:5-8). These are to no longer be rights, but instead privileges which we are stewards over (Mt 25:14-30).
