Jesus'
Associations with the Father |

|
-
Jesus associates with God the Father in
ways that make Him inseparable.
-
Below are highlights from the Gospels
arranged chronologically as they occurred.
|
"And no one
has ascended into heaven, but He who descended from heaven: the Son of
Man. As Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the
Son of Man be lifted up;" Jn 3:13-14 |
"For God so
loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes
in Him should not perish, but have eternal life." Jn 3:16 |
"My food is
to do the will of Him who sent Me and to accomplish His work." Jn 4:34 |
"My Father
is working until now, and I Myself am working." Jn 5:17 |
"Truly, truly,
I say to you, the Son can do nothing of Himself, unless it is something
He sees the Father doing; for whatever the Father does, these things the
Son also does in like manner. For the Father loves the Son, and shows Him
all things that He Himself is doing; and the Father will show Him greater
works than these, so that you will marvel." Jn 5:19-20 |
"For just as
the Father raises the dead and gives them life, even so the Son also gives
life to whom He wishes. For not even the Father judges anyone, but He has
given all judgment to the Son, in order that all may honor the Son, even
as they honor the Father. He who does not honor the Son does not honor
the Father who sent Him." Jn 5:21-23 |
"Truly, truly,
I say to you, he who hears My word, and believes Him who sent Me, has eternal
life, and does not come into judgment, but has passed out of death into
life." Jn 5:24 |
"For just as
the Father has life in Himself, even so He gave to the Son also to have
life in Himself." Jn 5:26 |
"I can do nothing
on My own initiative. As I hear, I judge; and My judgment is just, because
I do not seek My own will, but the will of Him who sent Me." Jn 5:30 |
"For the works
which the Father has given Me to accomplish, the very works that I do,
bear witness of Me, that the Father has sent Me." Jn 5:36 |
"I have come
in My Father's name, and you do not receive Me; if another comes in his
own name, you will receive him." Jn 5:43 |
"The Sabbath
was made for man, and not man for the Sabbath. So the Son of Man is Lord
even of the Sabbath." Mk 2:27-28 |
"Therefore
everyone who confesses Me before men, I will also confess him before My
Father who is in heaven. But whoever denies Me before men, I will also
deny him before My Father who is in heaven." Mt 10:32-33 |
"All that the
Father gives Me will come to Me, and the one who comes to Me I will certainly
not cast out. For I have come down from heaven, not to do My own will,
but the will of Him who sent Me." Jn 6:37-38 |
"No one can
come to Me, unless the Father who sent Me draws him; and I will raise him
up on the last day." Jn 6:44 |
"Not that any
man has seen the Father, except the One who is from God; He has seen the
Father." Jn 6:46 |
"Whoever receives
one child like this in My name receives Me; and whoever receives Me does
not receive Me, but Him who sent Me." Mk 9:37 |
"My teaching
is not Mine, but His who sent Me. If anyone is willing to do His will,
he will know of the teaching, whether it is of God or whether I speak from
Myself. He who speaks from himself seeks his own glory; but He who is seeking
the glory of the One who sent Him, He is true, and there is no unrighteousness
in Him." Jn 7:16-18 |
"You both know
Me and know where I am from; and I have not come of Myself, but He who
sent Me is true, whom you do not know. I know Him; because I am from Him,
and He sent Me." Jn 7:28-29 |
"For a little
while longer I am with you, then I go to Him who sent Me. You will seek
Me, and will not find Me; and where I am, you cannot come." Jn 7:33-34 |
"You are from
below, I am from above; you are of this world, I am not of this world."
Jn 8:23 |
"When you lift
up the Son of Man, then you will know that I am He, and I do nothing on
My own initiative, but I speak these things as the Father taught Me. And
He who sent Me is with Me; He has not left Me alone, for I always do the
things that are pleasing to Him." Jn 8:28-29 |
"If God were
your Father, you would love Me; for I proceeded forth and have come from
God, for I have not even come on My own initiative, but He sent Me." Jn
8:42 |
"But I do not
seek My glory; there is One who seeks and judges. Truly, truly, I say to
you, if anyone keeps My word he will never see death." Jn 8:50-51 |
"If I glorify
Myself, My glory is nothing; it is My Father who glorifies Me, of whom
you say, 'He is our God.'" Jn 8:54 |
"Truly, truly,
I say to you, before Abraham was born, I am." Jn 8:58 |
"We must work
the works of Him who sent Me as long as it is day; night is coming, when
no man can work. While I am in the world, I am the Light of the world."
Jn 9:4-5 |
"I am the good
shepherd; the good shepherd lays down His life for the sheep. I am the
good shepherd; and I know My own and My own know Me, even as the Father
knows Me and I know the Father; and I lay down My life for the sheep. I
have other sheep, which are not of this fold; I must bring them also, and
they will hear My voice; and they will become one flock with one shepherd.
For this reason the Father loves Me, because I lay down My life so that
I may take it again. No one has taken it away from Me, but I lay it down
on My own initiative. I have authority to lay it down, and I have authority
to take it up again. This commandment I received from My Father." Jn 10:11,
14-18 |
"The one who
listens to you listens to Me, and the one who rejects you rejects Me; and
he who rejects Me rejects the One who sent Me." Lk 10:16 |
"My sheep hear
My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me; and I give eternal life
to them, and they will never perish; and no one will snatch them out of
My hand. My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and
no one is able to snatch them out of the Father's hand. I and the Father
are one." Jn 10:27-30 |
"If I do not
do the works of My Father, do not believe Me; but if I do them, though
you do not believe Me, believe the works, so that you may know and understand
that the Father is in Me, and I in the Father." Jn 10:37-38 |
"The kingdom
of God is not coming with signs to be observed; nor will they say, 'Look,
here it is!' or, 'There it is!' For behold, the kingdom of God is in your
midst." Lk 17:20-21 |
"He who believes
in Me, does not believe in Me but in Him who sent Me. He who sees Me sees
the One who sent Me." Jn 12:44-45 |
"Do not let
your heart be troubled; believe in God, believe also in Me." Jn 14:1 |
"I am the way,
and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father, but through Me.
If you had known Me, you would have known My Father also; from now on you
know Him, and have seen Him." Jn 14:6-7 |
"Do you not
believe that I am in the Father, and the Father is in Me? The words that
I say to you I do not speak on My own initiative, but the Father abiding
in Me does His works. Believe Me that I am in the Father and the Father
in Me; otherwise believe because of the works themselves. Truly, truly,
I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also;
and greater works than these he will do; because I go to the Father." Jn
14:10-12 |
"I will ask
the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may be with you
forever; that is the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because
it does not see Him or know Him, but you know Him because He abides with
you, and will be in you." Jn 14:16-18 |
"If anyone
loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will
come to him, and make Our abode with him." Jn 14:23 |
"I am the true
vine, and My Father is the vinedresser. Every branch in Me that does not
bear fruit, He takes away; and every branch that bears fruit, He prunes
it so that it may bear more fruit." Jn 15:1-2 |
"Just as the
Father has loved Me, I have also loved you; abide in My love. If you keep
My commandments, you will abide in My love; just as I have kept My Father's
commandments and abide in His love." Jn 15:9-10 |
"He who hates
Me hates My Father also. If I had not done among them the works which no
one else did, they would not have sin; but now they have both seen and
hated Me and My Father as well." Jn 15:23-24 |
"When the Helper
comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, that is the Spirit of truth,
who proceeds from the Father, He will testify about Me." Jn 15:26 |
"But when He,
the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all the truth; for He
will not speak on His own initiative, but whatever He hears, He will speak;
and He will disclose to you what is to come. He shall glorify Me; for He
will take of Mine, and will disclose it to you. All things that the Father
has are Mine; therefore I said that He takes of Mine and will disclose
it to you." Jn 16:13-15 |
"For the Father
Himself loves you, because you have loved Me, and have believed that I
came forth from the Father. I came forth from the Father, and have come
into the world; I am leaving the world again and going to the Father."
Jn 16:27-28 |
"This is eternal
life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom
You have sent." Jn 17:3 |
"Now Father,
glorify Me together with Yourself, Father, with the glory which I had with
You before the world was." Jn 17:5 |
"I do not ask
on behalf of these alone, but for those also who believe in Me through
their word; that they may all be one; even as You, Father, are in Me and
I in You, that they also may be in Us, so that the world may believe that
You sent Me. The glory which You have given Me I have given to them, that
they may be one, just as We are one; I in them and You in Me, that they
may be perfected in unity, so that the world may know that You sent Me,
and loved them, even as You have loved Me." Jn 17:20-23 |
"Are You the
Christ, the Son of the Blessed One?" And Jesus said, "I am; and you shall
see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of Power, and coming with
the clouds of heaven." Mk 14:61-62 |
"My kingdom
is not of this world. If My kingdom were of this world, then My servants
would be fighting so that I might not be handed over to the Jews; but as
it is, My kingdom is not of this realm. Therefore Pilate said to Him, "So
You are a king?" Jesus answered, "You say correctly that I am a king. For
this I have been born, and for this I have come into the world, to testify
to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth hears My voice." Jn 18:36-37 |
"Stop clinging
to Me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father; but go to My brethren
and say to them, 'I ascend to My Father and your Father, and My God and
your God.'" Jn 20:17 |
"Peace be with
you; as the Father has sent Me, I also send you." Jn 20:21 |
"All authority
has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples
of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son
and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you;
and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age." Mt 28:18-20
