Work Hard, Play Hard, Rest Hard

There Is a Time to Work
  • If anyone is not willing to work, then he is not to eat, either.  For we hear that some among you are leading an undisciplined life, doing no work at all, but acting like busybodies.  Now such persons we command and exhort in the Lord Jesus Christ to work in quiet fashion and eat their own bread (2 Th 3:10-12).
  • Whatever you do, do your work heartily, as for the Lord rather than for men (Col 3:23).
There Is a Time to Take a Break
  • Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is a Sabbath of the Lord your God; in it you shall not do any work (Ex 20:9-10a)
  • The apostles gathered together with Jesus; and they reported to Him all that they had done and taught.  And He said to them, “Come away by yourselves to a secluded place and rest a while.” (For there were many people coming and going, and they did not even have time to eat.)  They went away in the boat to a secluded place by themselves (Mk 6:30-32).
There Is a Time to Play
  • Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but only one receives the prize?  Everyone who competes in the games exercises self-control in all things (1 Cor 9:24a, 25b).
  • Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might (Eccl 9:10).
There Is a Time to Rest
  • One hand full of rest is better than two fists full of labor and striving after wind (Eccl 4:6).
  • The sleep of the working man is pleasant, whether he eats little or much (Eccl 5:12a).
  • In peace I will both lie down and sleep, for You alone, O Lord, make me to dwell in safety (Ps 4:8).
  • And behold, there arose a great storm on the sea, so that the boat was being covered with the waves; but Jesus Himself was asleep (Mt 8:24).
